Times are a changing in South Dakota. Medical marijuana is here. Effective July 1, 2016 State law now allows for hemp to be used as an alternative treatment to many common ailments and conditions. The dispensaries that sell this medicine must now be licensed and inspected by the state government.

Laws concerning the growing and dispensing of hemp or marijuana in South Dakota changed on December 27, 2017. At that time, then Governor Dennis Daugaard signed the bill into law legalizing medical marijuana in our state. The new regulatory organization, the Board of Medical Marijuana and Medical Marijuana Dispensary Regulations, has received over 220 applications for dispensing establishments and cultivation operations and is currently  processing those requests.
